Legend Of Zelda Oracle Of Seasons Rom is the European Game Boy Color release in .gbc format for compatible GBC emulators. Inside the game, Link changes Holodrum’s landscape with the Rod of Seasons while searching for eight Essences of Nature. The ROM stores the cartridge game data, but it does not recreate the original console by itself. A compatible emulator reads the file and supplies the Game Boy Color environment needed to run it.

Onox Sends the Seasons Out of Order

Link approaches the Triforce inside Hyrule Castle. Moments later, he appears in a Holodrum forest. There he encounters Din with her traveling group. Dark clouds soon cover the sky. Onox calls Din the Oracle of Seasons. A funnel cloud pulls her upward before he seals her inside a crystal. The Temple of Seasons then sinks into Subrosia. With Din imprisoned, Holodrum begins shifting rapidly between seasons as the land deteriorates. Impa directs Link toward the Maku Tree in Horon Village. Link finds his first sword in a cave along the way.

A Stump Must Be Nearby Before the Season Changes

The Rod of Seasons changes the surrounding season only while Link stands on a stump. Winter freezes water so he can walk across the ice. Summer grows vines that he can climb up cliffs. The rod has no effect when first obtained. Four towers house the four spirits of the seasons. Every tower adds another season to the rod. A route blocked in one season may open after a different choice at the stump.

Holodrum Above and Subrosia Below

The search for eight Essences of Nature covers both lands. Holodrum forms the surface world, while dwarf-like Subrosians live underground. Several portals connect them.

Some Surface Paths Start Underground

Certain areas in one world can be entered only through a portal in the other. A route visible in Holodrum may therefore begin below in Subrosia. Optional side quests and equipment upgrades appear in both places.

The Gnarled Key Starts the Eight-Dungeon Search

The Maku Tree gives Link the Gnarled Key for the dungeon holding the first Essence. Enemies and puzzles appear throughout the dungeons. Each dungeon ends with a boss guarding its Essence. After Link returns all eight, the tree creates a Huge Maku Seed. The sacred seed opens the way into Onox’s castle. Link defeats Onox there and rescues Din.

Only Two Items Stay Ready at Once

Combat appears from an overhead view, with basic controls, graphics, and sounds resembling Link’s Awakening. The sword handles Link’s main attack. Only two item slots are available. Even the sword and shield must be assigned manually. Bombs, a boomerang, or another tool can replace either one in the active setup.

The Slingshot and Magnetic Gloves Stay in Seasons

The slingshot fires seeds. Magnetic Gloves provide access to areas that otherwise remain unreachable. Each of the final three dungeons holds a stronger version of an item found earlier. Link’s sword power and shield defense can both be upgraded twice.

Some Rings Make Link Weaker

Ring collection does not lead only to stronger bonuses. Some rings improve defense. Others reduce Link’s attack or protection, while a few have no practical use. Another group transforms him into an enemy creature. During the optional trading game, Link receives special items and delivers them to people across the land. Completing the exchange earns an upgraded sword.

Finishing Seasons Changes the Next Game

Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages use the same engine. Seasons focuses more on action, while Ages puts greater emphasis on puzzles. Either game remains complete on its own. A password or Game Link Cable connects the two releases.

Passwords Move Rewards Between the Two Games

Completing either title produces a password for an alternative version of the other. Characters in that version mention further passwords connected to items or upgrades. Returning a new password to the linked game transfers its reward. Rings can also move through passwords. Connecting both games with a Game Link Cable may create a random ring.

Twinrova and Ganon Follow Onox

The alternative story expands after Onox’s defeat. Twinrova kidnaps Zelda and lights the third Flame of Despair in an attempt to revive Ganon. Link enters Twinrova’s lair to battle Twinrova and Ganon. Completing this linked version produces another password. Its reward is the Victory Ring, marking Ganon’s defeat.
