The Mortal Kombat Gold ROM is supplied as a .bin Dreamcast disc image for compatible emulators on PC or Android. Extract the archive first, then leave every disc file in the same folder. The game expects quick directional commands for combos, weapon moves, and Fatalities, so a mapped controller is far more comfortable than touch buttons or a spread-out keyboard setup.
Mortal Kombat Gold was the only Mortal Kombat game released for the Sega Dreamcast. It takes the base of Mortal Kombat 4 and adds six returning fighters, new arenas, and another way to choose weapons. The combat has MK4’s sharp, sometimes stiff rhythm. A projectile or quick uppercut can flip a round in seconds. Sidestepping moves a fighter away from a straight attack, though the arenas never become as open as those in later 3D Mortal Kombat games.

Six fighters missing from Mortal Kombat 4
Kitana, Mileena, Kung Lao, Baraka, Cyrax, and Sektor join the existing roster. Kitana can lift an opponent with her fan, leaving time for another hit. Cyrax drops bombs that turn part of the floor into a hazard. Sektor answers from farther away with missiles. Kung Lao has his bladed hat, Mileena carries her sais, and Baraka becomes dangerous once his arm blades are close enough to connect.
Gold also adds the Church, Netherrealm, Ladder, and Soul Chamber arenas. There is no separate campaign built around the returning characters. Shinnok and Quan Chi remain at the center of the story, as they were in MK4.
Weapons, team fights, and tournament brackets
Gold allows a weapon to be chosen from the fighter-select screen and drawn during combat. Reaching for it is not a free move. Try it directly in front of an active opponent and they can strike before the weapon is ready. Each selection changes the fighter’s reach and adds several commands. Regular punches, kicks, special moves, and short combinations still decide most rounds.
Team mode places several fighters on each side. Endurance is a different test: one opponent follows another. Tournament mode supports brackets for four or eight participants.
Practice mode has an input display. After mapping a controller, press each direction and attack once. A missing kick or an awkward Run or Block assignment shows up there before it causes trouble during a combo or Fatality.
Keeping the .bin tracks with the .cue file
Some Dreamcast disc images include a small .cue file beside one or more .bin tracks. The cue sheet tells the emulator how those tracks fit together. It is not extra clutter. Keep the original filenames and select the .cue file when it is present. Opening one track by itself, renaming it, or moving it elsewhere may stop the image from loading.
Redream reads Dreamcast BIN/CUE sets. Flycast lists both .bin and .cue among its accepted extensions. With a paired image, point the emulator to the .cue file. The .bin files are the disc tracks it needs.
