The “Plus” in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus is slightly misleading. This is not the San Hieronymo campaign with a few extras attached. The story has been removed, leaving a standalone game about recruiting soldiers and risking them in a chain of changing missions. Multiplayer received most of the additions. The Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus ROM for PSP is the English USA release in ISO format, listed at 628.1 MB, and the original Portable Ops is not required.

Infinity Mission Makes Every Capture Matter

Infinity Mission sends a four-member sneaking team through stages selected in a different order from one run to the next. Many ask the squad to locate an advance point, but special missions may add a time limit, demand a quiet escape, or force the team to survive an alert. Weapons and supplies are picked up inside the mission. Arriving with a strong soldier does not mean arriving with a full stock of gear.

The action remains real-time and third-person. Guards still have to be watched, and one careless move can turn a quiet route into an alert. CQC is often worth more than a quick kill because an unconscious enemy can become part of the unit. A useful guard may be a better prize than another rifle. Recruits have different combat and support skills, so the right capture can fill a weakness elsewhere in the roster.

Those gains only become permanent after the run is completed or the team leaves by Fulton. A wipeout takes away the soldiers, items, and experience found during that attempt. Easy explains the rules in a shorter sequence. Normal, Hard, and Extreme extend the run and raise the cost of a bad decision.

There are no story scenes connecting these stages. Players interested in Big Boss’s 1970 mission, its bosses, and the San Hieronymo plot need Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops instead. Plus treats the solo mode as a way to build and train a squad.

Old Snake, Raiden, and a 200-Soldier Roster

The expanded roster holds up to 200 soldiers, and the game includes more than 130 soldier types. Old Snake from Metal Gear Solid 4, Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 2, and Roy Campbell are among the added characters. Players with Portable Ops save data can carry their existing soldiers into Plus instead of rebuilding the unit from zero. Soldiers also improve as they are deployed, while the new careers can make an ordinary recruit useful in a specific role.

The multiplayer side supports up to six players through PSP Wi-Fi. There are 15 battle maps, including REX Hangar from the first Metal Gear Solid. Plus also adds Shooting Range and a chat-only room. These modes were designed around PSP networking, so loading the ISO in PPSSPP does not automatically connect the game to an online match.

Using the English USA ISO with PPSSPP

The listed file is a PSP ISO rather than a PC or Android installer. PPSSPP opens the disc image directly after any outer ZIP or 7Z archive has been extracted. The files inside the ISO do not need to be unpacked or converted.

Infinity Mission can be played without any network configuration. For multiplayer, PPSSPP can redirect PSP ad hoc play over a local network or relay server. Networking must be enabled on every device, and participants need compatible connection settings before they can create or join the same room.
