A child lives in Pallet Town as the silent protagonist from LeafGreen and FireRed. A voice urges players to stop after they start their journey alone in tall grass. A well-known Pokemon researcher, Professor Oak tells the player that tall grass is often home to wild Pokemon and can make it very dangerous for them. Oak’s grandson, an aspiring Pokémon Trainer, is there to meet the player. Both the player and their opponent are instructed to choose a starter Pokémon for their travels. The player is then challenged by the rival to a Pokemon battle using their newly acquired Pokemon.
