Mario Kart DS Rom is the USA-region Nintendo DS racing game for NDS emulators. Its 32 tracks combine 16 new courses with 16 returning tracks from the previous four Mario Kart games.
Mission Mode Turns Track Sections Into Short Objectives
Mission Mode steps away from complete races and uses smaller sections of existing tracks. Tasks include collecting coins, attacking enemies with items, or driving through numbered gates. Six sets contain eight regular missions apiece. A ninth mission ends every set with a boss battle.

Nitro and Retro Cups Split the 32 Tracks
The new courses appear in Nitro Grand Prix, while Retro Grand Prix brings back 16 older tracks. Eight racers are available at first, with two karts assigned to every character. Further characters and vehicles remain locked until they are unlocked through play.
Blooper and Bullet Bill Change the Item Race
These two additions behave very differently from a standard projectile. Blooper interferes with rival screens, while Bullet Bill carries its user forward without manual steering.
Blooper Spreads Ink Across Rival Screens
Using the Blooper covers the screens of other racers with ink. Instead of striking one kart directly, the item makes parts of the track harder for opponents to see.
Bullet Bill Drives on Autopilot
Bullet Bill transforms the player into a large, fast-moving bullet. The item takes control of movement during its effect and travels forward on autopilot.
Battle Mode Counts Balloons or Shines
Up to eight people can enter Battle Mode across six tracks. Balloon Battle and Shine Runners use the same arenas, though their winning conditions are completely separate.
Reserve Balloons Must Be Inflated
Every racer begins Balloon Battle with one active balloon and five in reserve. Two more can be inflated by holding Select while stopped. Blowing into the Nintendo DS microphone works as another method.
Shine Runners Rewards the Largest Collection
Shine Runners replaces balloons with collectible Shines. Racers compete to hold as many as possible, and the player with the highest total wins the match.
