Killzone: Mercenary still hits hard when played through a PS Vita emulator. The Invasion of Vekta
The story opens during the Helghast invasion of Vekta. Arran Danner, a professional mercenary with no allegiance beyond his paycheck, jumps into the chaos alongside his partner, Ivanov. Their assignment is to extract Admiral Alex Grey from the occupied city. After fighting through the Halls of Justice, they reach her just as Colonel Kratek is about to execute her. The rescue succeeds, but the mission continues at a crashed Helghan cruiser carrying crucial transmission codes. Danner secures the data, though Ivanov dies in a trap while sabotaging the ship’s power system.
A War That Reaches Helghan
Two years pass, and the fight drags all the way to Helghan itself. Danner slips behind enemy lines and knocks out part of the Arc Cannon grid, giving ISA ships a small opening to push forward. He’s then ordered to extract the Vektan Ambassador’s family. The mission falls apart under heavy fire, leaving only the ambassador’s son, Justus, alive. During the escape, a Helghast scientist named Savic also flees the city, and his escape starts a new chain of events.
The Secret Virus
On the road, Savic reveals the truth he’s been carrying. He once built a virus capable of wiping out either species with terrifying precision. He disabled it before defecting, but the trigger that could reactivate it now lies in Justus’s blood. The virus sits with one side of the war, the key with the other.
Betrayals and the Final Push
As Danner pushes deeper into Helghan territory, the ground beneath him shifts constantly. Benoit turns on him. Grey plans to reawaken the virus. Kratek wants it for the Helghast. Every step leads through fire—burning streets, collapsing labs, metal corridors shaking apart. Danner destroys the virus and escapes with Justus before everything comes down.
Disappearing From the War
Once the dust settles, their identities are wiped clean. No records, no trace. They walk away from the war and slip into the shadows.
The game remains one of the PS Vita’s most impressive shooters, with dense visuals, tactical gunplay, varied missions, and a tone that fits perfectly within the Killzone universe.
